A group of women smiling in front of a bookshelf.

In Cambodia, only 2 percent of women attain baccalaureate degrees, and even secondary education is rare. BGR partner Lotus Outreach (LO) supports young women’s educations through university scholarships and related support through its Cambodian Tertiary Education and Leadership Youth Training (CATALYST) program. During this academic year, BGR support will provide scholarships to fifteen female graduates of primary and secondary school scholarship (GATE) program.

The scholarship funds tuition and fees, health-care support, and housing, as well as textbooks and school supplies, computer training, workshop fees, and a monthly stipend. Food aid is also provided via a separate grant. By facilitating access to higher education, the program activates the social and economic potential of young women at the margins, empowering them to become agents of social change and giving them the emotional support and mentorship they need to successfully pursue their goals and dreams. They also serve as role models for future generations, and combat damaging class and gender norms on a societal level. Annually renewable project
