The Global Compassion Coalition (GCC) is a global movement—with a hub of resources and an associated coalition—using the power of compassion to relieve suffering, including its underlying systemic causes.
Founded in 2022 by Rick Hanson, a psychologist, author, and senior fellow at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, the GCC seeks to foster compassion at the individual, community, and societal levels. To this end, the GCC both supports research and teachings on mindfulness and compassion, and creates opportunities for people to practice compassion together through conferences, online offerings, courses, virtual communities, and other initiatives.
This fall, the GCC introduced Compassion Weavers, a new initiative “to recognize and celebrate people who serve as ambassadors of kindness, justice, and inclusion.” The first person to be honored as a Compassion Weaver is BGR executive director Kim Behan, for her “steady commitment to service [that] has helped transform thousands of lives.”
