Located on a five-acre plot in the Himalayan region of Tawang, the Mahabodhi Tawang Centre provides educational, housing, and nutritional support for area children and the elderly. The organization nurtures an environment in which the children, senior citizens, staff, and monks at the center live together as an extended family, sharing love, care, and respect for one another.

This project supports the center’s food program, which provides nutritious meals three times a day to 160 children, more than half of whom are girls, plus elderly people, monks, and organization staff. The students also receive school uniforms, additional clothing, and school supplies.

Tawang remains largely cut off from the rest of the world in winter, due to heavy snowfall that lasts from November through March each year. The resultant scarcity of nutritious food leads to malnutrition in children and consequent health issues. The nutritional support offered to young students at the Mahabodhi Tawang Centre is therefore particularly important, as it improves their engagement in school and helps prevent long-term health problems associated with malnutrition. Third year of a three-year project.
