The ongoing human rights crisis in Nicaragua has resulted in skyrocketing food costs and unemployment, the confiscation of land and personal property by the government, and economic collapse In the rural communities served by BGR partner North Country Mission of Hope, only 25 percent of families have safe drinking water and sanitary facilities; 47 percent of children suffer from chronic malnutrition.
The 30 young women supported by this grant have received past school support sponsored by BGR, allowing them to finish high school. This project supports their continuing studies in technical and university programs in subjects including accounting, nursing, English, computer science, medicine, international relations and foreign trade, industrial engineering, and education.
