In Cameroon, the ongoing civil war known as the Anglophone Crisis has resulted in the death of thousands of civilians, forced children out of school, and displaced more than a million people. Longtime BGR partner Community Relief and Development Action (COREDA) is a nonprofit organization which, since 2009, has been actively providing support services for vulnerable communities in the southwest and northwest provinces of Cameroon.

Building on the success of their existing primary schools, in 2023 COREDA launched a vocational secondary school aimed at fighting poverty, economic dependency and unemployment among orphans and vulnerable children. This year, the school is providing training to 308 students in fields including welding, construction, electrical systems, clothing, carpentry, hospitality, and plumbing, among others. This year’s BGR project is also supporting the carpentry department’s students in building necessary furniture for the vocational school.
