WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS
One of the deepest roots of chronic hunger and malnutrition is the subordinate status of girls and women in many societies. One of the most potent antidotes to chronic hunger therefore is improving the status of girls and women. The projects below exemplify our work in this area.
Women’s Food Entrepreneur Program in Pima County, Arizona 2021
This project will help to create a pilot program to help low-income women to start a food business. A group of 10 participants will learn key business skills such as planning, budgeting, and marketing.
Rice-Support for Students in Cambodia 2020
This project with longtime partner Lotus Outreach provides rice to 410 family members of girls to allow the girls to complete their studies.
CATALYST Scholarship Program for Young Women in Cambodia 2021
This project funds university tuition and fees, health-care support, school supplies, and housing for young women from some of the poorest families in rural Cambodia.
Graphic Design Training for Underserved Women in Sri Lanka 2021
This project will enable 15 women to take classes in graphic design and English. Jobs in this field will allow them to support their families, benefitting an additional 60 people
Vocational Training for Women in São Paulo, Brazil 2021
This project with partner GAIA will help women lift themselves and their families out of poverty by supporting training for 120 women in sewing or elder care.
Technical Education for Women From Low-Income Families In Sri Lanka 2021
This project supports 155 low-income women students enrolled in technical programs at vocational centers, gaining skills needed for middle and higher technical employment.
Empowering Widows and Single Mothers Through Vocational Training in Cameroon 2021
This project provides vocational education and training to impoverished widows, single mothers, and underemployed youths. At least 300 women and girls are trained each year.
Organic Farming Initiative for Widows in India 2021
This project with partner Building Bridges India provides training in organic gardening, medicinal remedy preparation, and business skills to 275 widows.
Vocational Training for Widows in Sangrur, India 2021
This project supports a vocational training program for 125 women whose husbands committed suicide because of their indebtedness. This grant will add computer training and vocational support to ongoing training, as the women seek service sector jobs.
