SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE PROJECTS
For the 821 million people across the globe who face chronic hunger, climate change is no theory, but an ever-present reality. Climate-resilient agriculture methods can mean the difference between survival and starvation for the 80 percent of the world’s chronically hungry and malnourished people who live in rural areas. The projects below exemplify our work in this area.
Leveraging Agriculture for Improving Nutrition in Kenya 2021
This project serves Nairobi's Mukuru community working with 200 local gardeners to plant and cultivate organic gardens improving food security.
Socioeconomic Well-being for Vulnerable Communities in Cambodia 2021
This project aims to improve food security, health, gender equity, children’s educational opportunities, and living conditions for poor families and vulnerable individuals in rural Cambodia.
Prosperity Through Resilient Agriculture in Uttar Pradesh, India 2021
This project aims to increase income and nutrition security among smallholder women farmers through training in climate-resilient agricultural methods and in the production of nutritionally rich crop varieties. It will directly serve 1,500 women farmers, and 300 indirect beneficiaries.
Long Term Strategy for Food Production in Detroit, Michigan 2021
This project with partner Keep Growing Detroit provides outreach, gardening education, and seeds and other materials to community members. Classes and coaching sessions are also offered.
Grow Biointensive Agriculture Training in Malawi 2021
This project helps families attain food security through training in Grow Biointensive climate-resiliant agricultural methods. The project will train 2,600 farmers including 1,400 women.
Easton Urban Farm in Easton, Pennsylvania 2021
This project with partner Easton Area Neighborhood Centers supports a community garden in which volunteers grow vegetables, fruits, and seedlings for distribution to low-income city residents. The project will benefit 1,705 people, 675 of them women, and an estimated 700 children.
Supporting Biodiversity and Indigenous Culture in Brazil 2021
This project will benefit 268 Ava Guarani Indigenous people by affirming traditional cutures and by preserving and cultivating traditional crops, allowing more women farmers to improve nutritional outcomes.
Livelihood and Climate Smart Agriculture in Uganda 2021
This project will train 200 smallholder women farmers in crop management, agronomic climate-smart practices, and tree planting for ecosystem restoration.
Training in Organic Vegetable and Cultivation in Peru 2021
The aim of this project is to address malnutrition in children and young people in the Piskak´uchu indigenous community in Cusco. Children and families in this community face food insecurity, with diets consisting largely of noodles, rice, and potatoes, with little nutritional diversity.
Access to Technologies for Smallholder Farmers in Ethiopia 2021
This project with partner CARE works to improve food security and income among poor wheat and potato farmers.
Women’s Empowerment Program in Kenya 2021
This project with partner G-BIACK addresses food insecurity and malnutrition and raising the income of 500 farmers through sustainable methods. Of the 500 farmers, 450 are women.
