As we usher in the year 2022, our thoughts naturally turn to the prospects and challenges that lie ahead. Despite the progress we’ve made, we’re still dealing with a global pandemic that spins off new variants. Climate change continues to escalate, inspiring a mass movement led by youth to protect the Earth’s natural environment. The need to come together in unity, surmounting old barriers and divisions between people, becomes more urgent. And in these tough times, the teachings of the Buddha Dharma offer us the kind of vision and guidance we need to navigate our way through the year ahead.

To help us in this process, the monastic team of Buddhist Global Relief will hold an online three-day retreat over the weekend of January 7–9. The theme of the retreat is “Clarity, Compassion, and Courage,” three qualities that will enable us to marshal our inner resources as we welcome the new year. Led by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, Ven. Ayyā Dhammadīpā, Ven. Jin Chuan, and Ven. Jin Wei, the retreat will feature Dharma talks, periods of seated and moving meditation, and discussion periods. We’ll also offer brief introductions to BGR’s projects, which show how to put compassion into action.

The schedule is designed to accommodate participants from different time zones across North America.:

  • Friday, January 7: 7:30–8:30 pm Eastern Time / 4:30–5:30 pm Pacific Time (U.S.)
  • Saturday, January 80: 10 am–9 pm Eastern Time / 7 am–6 pm Pacific Time (U.S.)
  • Sunday, January 9: 10 am–6 pm Eastern Time / 7 am–3 pm Pacific Time (U.S.)

The retreat incorporates daily break periods, and you are welcome to come and go as you wish. A more detailed schedule will be posted later on our website.

There is no charge for this retreat, but donations to Buddhist Global Relief are always welcome.
