A child sitting among adults eating food from bowls.

Malnutrition is a widespread problem in Côte d’Ivoire, where nearly half of the population lives in poverty and approximately one in three children under 5 suffers from chronic malnutrition or stunting. Malnutrition rates are highest in the Poro region in the Savanes districts in the northern part of the country. BGR partner Helen Keller International has been working in communities of the Poro region since 2013 to increase production, access, and consumption of nutritious foods, particularly by women and children; improving household incomes; and providing education related to infant and child nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, and health. This project with HKI will continue this work in the Poro region and also support the construction of boreholes and irrigation systems to provide much-needed access to clean water. In this first year, the project will train 100 health workers in 20 health centers serving approximately 20,000 people; and construct one borehole and one irrigation system, serving 1,000 people. First year of a three-year project
