Children in Cameroon enjoy a meal provided by BGR partner COREDA.
By Patricia A. Price
Looking back at our founding in 2008, it’s fair to say the Board and volunteers who gathered to create BGR had not dared to imagine how great an impact we would make on the lives of impoverished children and families for whom hunger, sadly, is a daily challenge.
Fourteen years later, I can confidently tell you that BGR’s impact will extend well into the future, certainly beyond our lifetimes! How can I be sure? It’s because in addition to the outright gifts we receive from thousands of Buddhist Global Relief donors, an increasing number of friends have named BGR as a beneficiary in their estate plans and—most importantly— they’ve chosen to share this information with us now, during their lifetimes. On behalf of the BGR team, I offer a heartfelt thank you. We value your trust and future investment in our mission!
Just this past year, we received distributions from an estate we knew about, as well as some surprises. Plus, several BGR supporters, young and old, have notified us that they have named us for a future gift in their estate plans. To all of you who have taken this amazing step, thank you, too!
Together with outright donations, estate gifts have helped us increase our annual grants and the number of projects funded. This means improved nutrition for more at-risk people, basic education for children with an emphasis on girls, funding for sustainable home and community-based agriculture projects, and marketable skills training for impoverished women.
If you would like to name Buddhist Global Relief as a future beneficiary through your estate plan or a donor-designated asset (life insurance policy, retirement fund, etc.), please consider notifying us so we may thank you now for your future gift. I’d be happy to provide you with information to ensure your future gift comes to BGR.
