FOOD ASSISTANCE PROJECTS
The Buddha said that “Hunger is the worst kind of illness.” Since our founding in 2008, Buddhist Global Relief has worked to relieve hunger by providing food to those in need. The projects below exemplify our work in this area.
Assisting Malnourished Pregnant Mothers in Sri Lanka 2021
This project with partner Shraddha Charity Organization will provide food support and nutritional supplements to pregnant women in need.
Pandemic Crisis Response for Schoolchildren in Bangladesh 2021
This project helps respond to the COVID crisis offering gardening, rice support, a tree nursery for fruit trees and others, and training in food processing and agriculture. It will benefit 670 children and youths.
Hot Meals Program for Children in Mongolia 2021
This project provides meals, warm clothing, tutoring, school supplies, dental care, and health/hygiene instruction for 58 schoolchildren. This year it will also pay tuition for kindergarten students.
Food Aid for Elders and Children in India 2021
This project provides nutritional support for 208 people, including 157 children, plus elderly persons, monks, and staff.
Education and Healthy Food for Needy Children in India 2021
This project provides 288 children with healthy meals, uniforms, and school supplies.
Garden of Peace School Feeding Program in India 2021
This project provides 2 nutritious meals and a healthy snack each day for 175 students and staff members at the Garden of Peace school.
Early Years Behind Bars Prison Nutrition Program in Cambodia 2021
This project with partner LICADHO provides hygiene materials and food, including rice, dried fish, and soy milk, to incarcerated women and their children, who also live in the prison. Beneficiaries will include 50 pregnant women and 100 infants.
Increased Access to Water and Improved Nutritional Status in Senegal 2021
This project will construct boreholes and wells to provide clean water for drinking and agricultural irrigation for approximately 2,400 people in rural communities.
Meals for Schoolchildren in Ebase Village in Cameroon 2021
This project in Cameroon aims to increase access to basic education by 30 percent in five villages. The project aims to improve nutrition and health of 60 schoolchildren and to reduce the dropout rate among girls.
Food Support for Orphans in Bangladesh 2021
This project provides food support for 58 children who reside in a home for orphaned children from impoverished families.
Hunger Relief for Orphans in Uganda 2021
This project provides two nutritious meals a day for twenty children, many orphaned due to parental HIV/AIDS or other illnesses, accidents, abandonment, or conflict-related violence.
Implementing Proven Malnutrition Interventions and Increasing Access to Water in Korhogo, Côte d’Ivoire 2021
This project increases production, access, and consumption of nutritious foods, particularly by women and children; improves household incomes; and provides education that relates to infant and child nutrition and health.
Breakfast and Lunch Meals for Children in Haiti 2021
The Joan Rose Foundation foundation provdides vulnerable children with food, tutoring, school tuition, medicine, and clothing, with the ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of poverty for these children and their families. BGR’s grant supports Joan Rose Foundation’s food program, which provides two nutritious meals, five days a week, 51 weeks a year, to approximately 100 children and 10 adults.
Food Assistance for Families in Port-au-Prince, Haiti 2021
This project has allowed the What If Foundation to continue supporting the Lamanjay Food Program. The support helps purchase food and cooking supplies, provide stipends to workers who prepare and serve meals, and pay for storage space for dry goods. The community cafeteria serves up to 800 meals each day. The program also provides lunches for 350 to 400 students and staff members of the Father Jeri School, which was partly furnished and equipped with BGR assistance.
School Feeding Program in Haiti 2021
This project with longtime partner Trees That Feed Foundation (TTFF) addresses hunger and malnutrition issues, childhood education, economic opportunity, and climate resilience in Haiti. The core of the project is the provision of meals to 1,500 children in eighteen schools and orphanages in northeastern and central Haiti.
After School Feeding Program in Jacmel, Haiti 2021
The Art Creation Foundation for Children provides art instruction, tutoring, medical care, daily food and water, and tuition support for children in need in Jacmel, Haiti. Funding from BGR will provide approximately 37 students with at least one nutritious, filling meal per day, six days per week.
Improving Food and Nutrition Security in Dodoma Region, Tanzania 2021
This project with partner Action Against Hunger will train 70 small-holder women farmers in climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest management, and food preservation. Each of these model farmers will in turn train 25 other women farmers, for a total of 1,820 direct participants.
Hospital Meals Program in Vietnam 2021
In Vietnam, the price of a hospital stay does not include food. This project with the Vietnam Red Cross provides food to patients at Tam Binh hospital.
