This project with longtime BGR partner the Bodhicitta Foundation provides housing and schooling for 30 young women, ages 14 to 23, who are at risk of having their educations cut short due to poverty, as well as educational funding for 55 other young women. The girls come from some of the poorest regions in India, and many belong to the Dalit caste and other groups with high dropout rates. At the Bodhicitta Foundation, the young women receive room and board; vocational training in computers, sewing, or cosmetology; educational scholarships; English-language training; and books and school supplies. Following completion of the program, the young women are supported in returning to their home villages to create their own businesses and share their knowledge with other girls and young women.

This project also supports meals and tutoring for 170 local children; a women’s job training center that provides vocational training for local women; legal and psychological counseling; temporary housing for women fleeing domestic violence; and other support for local women and families.

This project is co-sponsored by BGR’s European sister organization, Mitgefühl in Aktion (MiA).
