This project with longtime BGR partner the Bodhicitta Foundation provides housing and schooling for 30 young women, ages 14 to 23, who are at risk of having their educations cut short due to poverty. The girls come from some of the poorest regions in India, and many belong to the Dalit caste and other groups with high dropout rates. At the Bodhicitta Foundation, the young women receive room and board; vocational training in computers, sewing, or cosmetology; scholarships to study social work, health care, or another subject of their choice; English-language training; wellness, leadership, and entrepreneurship workshops; and books and school supplies. Following their completion of the program, the young women are supported in returning to their home villages to create their own businesses and share their knowledge with other girls and young women. The project also supports a women’s job training center that provides vocational training for local women; legal and psychological counseling; temporary housing for women fleeing domestic violence; meals and tutoring for 150 local children; and other support for local women and families. Annually renewable project
