BGR partner the Mahabodhi Maîtri Mandala society in Arunachal Pradesh, serves the poor tribal people of northeast India under the spiritual guidance of Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita. In Diyun township and surrounding areas, educational facilities are meager and drop-out rates are high. In response to great need, in 2003 Mahabodhi founded a school that now serves 643 children, 245 of whom attend tuition-free. The organization also supports a hostel that is home to 240 underprivileged children (180 girls) from the region’s fifteen tribal communities. In an area where many farmers struggle to meet their families’ basic needs, this project provides 245 of these children (180 girls) with three nutritious meals a day as well as uniforms, health care, and school supplies. Annually renewable project
