Households in the rural highlands of Ethiopia face high food insecurity rates, as land degradation, recurrent droughts and population growth have led poorer households to farm increasingly marginal land. This project with BGR partner CARE works to improve food security and income among poor wheat and potato farmers by providing (1) 30 wheat mini-harvesters to produce a higher-quality yield with reduced labor, along with eight harvesting centers; and (2) instructions and materials to build the seed storage units called diffused light stores (DLS) to increase potato production. The project will build 100 mini diffused light stores and three large DLS units, benefiting more than 800 households, and will provide harvesting services to 1,500 households. Second year of a three-year project.
