The ongoing human rights crisis in Nicaragua has resulted in skyrocketing food costs and unemployment, the confiscation of land and personal property by the government, and economic collapse. By sponsoring the education of girls and young women in need, BGR partner North Country Mission of Hope offers them a safe, accountable place to be each day. The food served here is the only meal of the day for many of these students.
This grant sponsors the educations of 122 girls and young women, including 8 who are attending college. Each student in the program receives school books and the government-mandated school uniform and insignia, along with shoes, socks, underwear, and bras. Additionally, each student will receive parasite medicine, annual physicals at the medical clinic located on the Mission of Hope compound in Chiquilistagua, and feminine hygiene kits as needed. Tutoring and food support are also provided for girls who need additional assistance. Annually renewable project.
