The Jamyang Foundation, founded in 1988, supports innovative education projects for Indigenous girls and women in two of the neediest and most remote parts of the world: the Indian Himalayas and the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The Visakha Girls’ School in Manikchari provides an education to 160 girls from remote villages who have no other options for formal schooling. A majority of the girls are from the Indigenous Marma and Chakma communities.
This project will provide daily lunches and school supplies for the 160 students at the school. This year’s project will also support the transfer of students to other schools after their graduation from Visakha Girls’ School, in eighth grade, thereby facilitating their continuing education.
