In the Sironko District of Eastern Uganda, a harrowing cycle of poverty has arisen, with HIV/AIDS at its center: As their parents are lost to AIDS, children as young as 11 are taking on the responsibility of the head of their families, caring for younger siblings. Too young to find appropriate work, but desperate to feed their families, many of these children and young people end up turning to sex work, which in turn has increased the rate of new HIV infections among young people in Sironko.

This project with new BGR partner Humanity Aid Foundation will provide breakfast and lunch meals, school supplies, and mosquito nets for 150 vulnerable children and young people in this region of Uganda characterized by poverty, malnutrition, poor access to education, lack of safe drinking water, and inadequate health care. Project tasks also include workshops introducing the project to the community.
