The printing and publishing industry in Sri Lanka is expanding. Karuna Trust, which previously partnered with BGR to provide emergency food aid, has used this as an opportunity to help rural families become more self-sufficient. In 2015 and 2018, Karuna Trust offered advanced graphic design programs, and all of the participants went on to either start their own businesses or find secure jobs in the publishing industry.
With support from BGR, the group plans to offer the program again. Fifteen women will take classes in graphic design and desktop publishing, as well as participating in English classes. Jobs as graphic designers will allow the women to support their families, benefiting approximately 60 additional people. Existing partner, new project.
