In Tanzania, millions of children suffer from one or more forms of undernutrition, including low birth weight, stunting, wasting, anemia, iodine and Vitamin A deficiency. This project with longtime BGR partner Action Against Hunger is designed to address the underlying causes of malnutrition among children in 50 villages in Mpwapwa District of the Dodoma Region by increasing the production of nutrient-rich crops and the consumption of these foods to improve dietary diversification.

This third and final year of the project focuses on providing affordable irrigation solutions for sustainable vegetable production. The project will provide training for 50 smallholder women farmers who will lead the establishment of demonstration plots where irrigation pumps will be used. These farmers will in turn train 1,750 community members in irrigation practices, vegetable gardening, post-harvest management, and other skills. The project will also conduct screenings for malnutrition among children under 5 and will provide educational sessions to promote good nutrition practices. Third year of a three-year project.
