Dhammajarinee Witthaya School serves students from broken or troubled homes. Ninety-five percent of students have experienced trauma during childhood. Roughly 30 percent of the girls who attend the school have been abandoned, and 20 percent have grown up in homes experiencing extreme poverty. Education gives girls a chance to avoid economic and social exploitation. Every year of schooling increases a girl’s future income by 20 percent. Children born to literate mothers are 50 times more likely to survive past the age of 5. Improving access to education is also a powerful tool for fighting climate change.

 

With support from BGR, Dhammajarinee Witthaya School plans to provide three meals per day to 37 students. Over the course of the school year the school will provide 28,638 meals.
