The Cambodian prison system is plagued by overcrowding, squalid conditions and widespread corruption. Children under the age of three are allowed to live in prisons with their parents, where they are exposed to gruesome prison conditions and lack essential nutrients at a crucial point in their physical and mental development. This project with partner LICADHO, the Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, will monitor the rights and welfare of pregnant women, new mothers, and infants in eighteen Cambodian prisons and will work with partner organizations to provide food and hygiene materials to these women and their children. The project will benefit 130 children and their mothers as well as 36 pregnant women. New partner, new project.
