Located on a five-acre plot in the Himalayan region of Tawang, the Mahabodhi Tawang Centre provides educational, housing, and nutritional support for area children and the elderly. The organization nurtures an environment in which the children, senior citizens, staff, and monks at the center live together as an extended family, sharing love, care, and respect for one another.
Funding from BGR helps support education and housing for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Centre maintains a hostel for underprivileged students from the remotest parts of the district. The Centre also provides housing, food, and health care to seven young women pursuing higher education. In addition to its work with students, the project also welcomes seventeen area seniors who have no one to care for them.
This project supports the center’s food program, which provides nutritious meals three times a day to more than 200 community members, including 157 students, plus elderly people, monks, and organization staff. The students also receive school uniforms, additional clothing, school supplies, and health screenings.
