In Malawi, a majority of people live in extreme poverty; 62 percent of the population lives on less than $1.25 per day. Many families are unable to afford school costs for their children, and when resources are available, they are generally allotted to boys, leaving girl children without a formal education. BGR partner CAMFED supports girls’ education in five countries in Africa, including Malawi.
During the pandemic, our partner is providing support to children in need, including food, remote learning resources, school fees, uniforms, sanitary wear, and personal protective equipment. This project will provide support and education to at least 1,333 girls and young women in Malawi. New partner, new project.
