A project with BGR partner Centro de Trabalho Indigenista (CTI), this initiative aims to support the cultivation of traditional and native crops in 21 villages of the Ava Guarani people in western Parana. In the region where these villages are located, agribusiness interests have become widespread, replacing traditional agricultural territory with a monoculture reliant on heavy use of pesticides and transgenic seeds. The result has been increased food insecurity and a loss of traditional agricultural methods among the Guarani people. This project supports efforts among Ava Guarani communities toward recovering environmentally degraded areas and improving food security while supporting traditional cultural values. The project has three components: the supply of training, tools, seeds, and seedlings for the cultivation of traditional crops; the creation of an exchange of traditional knowledge and seeds, with the participation of Guarani elders, the main guardians of traditional seeds; and the renovation of a prayer house for the blessing of seeds and traditional foods. Throughout the project initiatives, women’s participation will be prioritized. The project will benefit 1,500 people, more than half women and girls. Annually renewable project
