People gathered at a colorful indoor celebration with decorated tables and hanging ornaments.

In the Campo Grande community of São Paulo many people lack access to basic needs such as healthy food and decent living conditions. Social services such as schools and hospitals are stretched thin, and literacy rates are low.

This project, with BGR partner GAIA, will help women lift themselves and their families out of poverty by supporting training for 120 women in sewing or elder care. The women will be taught the theoretical and technical skills needed for employment as caregivers in institutions or private homes, or as seamstresses. In addition, they will receive instruction and support so they can get proper work documents, access social services, and improve their families’ nutrition. This project will bring improved earning potential to 120 women, empowering them within their families and communities. This is a continuation of a successful project BGR funded in the past. As GAIA moves forward, it hopes to improve the effectiveness of the classes by offering them in person rather than online. Annually renewable project.
