One in four residents of southern Pima County, Arizona, faces economic insufficiency, and one in ten lives in poverty. Founded in 2009 at the request of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, the Sahuarita Food Bank & Community Resource Center works with beneficiaries and other community agencies to address the causes of hunger through education, workforce development, and other services.
A grant from BGR will allow Sahaurita Food Bank to create a pilot project to help low-income women start a food business. The first group of ten participants will identify products that have market potential in the area and begin to establish safe production, packing, and storage methods. As the project unfolds, students will also learn key business skills such as planning, budgeting, and marketing. New partner, new project.
