Thank you to the Sanghas and practitioners who joined together in community for Buddhist Global Relief’s first Virtual Walk to Feed the Hungry. When our New Jersey Spring Walk could not happen in person this May because of the pandemic, our NJ Walk coordinator, Deborah Steincolor, worked in partnership with several East Coast spiritual organizations to create a beautiful series of Dharma events benefiting Buddhist Global Relief and local food pantries. Deep gratitude to Deb and to our partners at Buddhist Insights, the Heart Circle Sangha, the Montclair/Summit Sanghas, Southern Dharma, and Unity of Montclair.

Each of these Sanghas invited their members to join in livestreamed activities, including Dharma talks, meditation sessions, yoga practices, workshops, discussions, and other mindful events in support of Buddhist Global Relief’s mission and programs worldwide. BGR’s executive director, Kim Behan, participated in many events. She enjoyed meeting Sangha members and was inspired and moved by their dedicated practice together in support of BGR. Our Sanghas’ generosity is truly amazing!

We look forward to sharing this uplifting experience with the greater Buddhist Global Relief community this fall as an online “Buddhist Actions to Feed the Hungry” companion program to our in-person Walks. Though much remains uncertain, we hope that we will also be able to hold BGR’s traditional Walks to Feed the Hungry this fall where conditions are favorable, continuing our annual tradition of mindful fellowship.

We want to thank Deb Steincolor, NJ Walk Coordinator, and the representatives of each participating Sangha for their selfless work and wonderful support: Bhante Suddhaso and Ayya Soma of Buddhist Insights, Joan Hoeberichts and Linda Strauss of Heart Circle Sangha, Kerry, Jessica, Deb, and Woody of the Montclair/Summit Sanghas, Sheila Garrick of Southern Dharma Retreat Center, and Carol Pomerantz of Unity of Montclair. We also thank all of the participating teachers and Sangha members who made Buddhist Global Relief’s first Virtual Walk to Feed the Hungry a beautiful celebration of community and compassion in action!
