2026 BGR Walk to Feed the Hungry
Saturday, September 26, 2026
Since 2010, Buddhist Global Relief’s Walks to Feed the Hungry have offered a precious opportunity for Buddhists of diverse affiliations—and friends of Buddhism—to come together in a shared endeavor to tackle one of the most daunting challenges of our time: chronic hunger and malnutrition, which afflicts about 800 million people around the world. The walks are a channel for expressing compassion in action and also a way to meet fellow Buddhists who share the aspiration to alleviate suffering and give others a chance to thrive and flourish.
This year, for the first time since the Covid pandemic, BGR will be holding a Walk to Feed the Hungry in New York City. Led by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, participants will walk peacefully through Astoria Park, near the East River in Astoria, Queens, and then will gather at a nearby site for a vegetarian lunch, speakers, and Dharma fellowship. We hope that you will join us, either in person or online, for this joyful morning of compassionate action in support of the work of Buddhist Global Relief. BGR currently sponsors sixty projects that span the world, from far-off Mongolia to enclaves of hunger here in the U.S. Our projects provide direct food aid to the hungry; support the education of poor girls—a major antidote to hunger; enable women to start home cottage industries; and provide crucial assistance to help farmers adopt climate-resilient models of agriculture. BGR has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator, and our projects have offered thousands of people around the world an outlet from crushing poverty and hunger.
The Buddha said, “The gift of food is the gift of life.” By joining the walk, or supporting others on the walk, you’ll be giving the gift of life to people in need throughout the world.
